Introduction
Recently, in June 2023, one of our partners received the following complaint from a Nigeria person who reported being scammed for $287:
I deposited my BUSD on Trustwallet and connected it to www.busd3.top. The balance on Trustwallet was displayed on busd3.top, and trading commenced. However, after a while, busd3.top unexpectedly depleted my funds from Trustwallet.
So what are BUSD, BUSD scams, and specifically busd3.top?
Binance USD (BUSD)
BUSD, or Binance USD, is a stablecoin developed by one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, Binance.
A stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency that is designed to maintain a stable value, as opposed to the significant volatility seen in many other digital currencies.

In the case of BUSD, it is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, meaning each BUSD token is meant to represent one US dollar.
Here are some key points about BUSD:
- Pegging to the US Dollar: The value of BUSD is pegged to the US dollar, and for each BUSD token in circulation, there should be an equivalent amount of USD held in reserve. This helps ensure the stability of the token’s value.
- Issuance and Redemption: BUSD can be purchased and redeemed directly through Binance. Binance works with the Paxos Trust Company to issue and redeem BUSD tokens. Paxos is a regulated financial institution that also handles the reserves that back BUSD.

What is the future of BUSD?

They provide price predictions for BUSD from 2023 to 2031, with estimated minimum, average, and maximum prices for each year.
The price predictions suggest a gradual increase in the value of BUSD over time, with a maximum price of $9.80 by 2031.
BUSD Scams
When it comes to scams involving BUSD or any other cryptocurrency, they can take many forms. Often, these scams will try to convince victims to send them cryptocurrency with the promise of significant returns or rewards.
Several types of scams can potentially involve BUSD or other stablecoins. Here are some examples:
Ponzi Schemes
In these scams, the fraudsters promise high returns on investment and pay earlier investors with the funds from later ones. It’s named after Charles Ponzi, who ran such a scheme in the 1920s.
The scheme eventually collapses when there are not enough new investors to pay the old ones.
Fake Giveaways
Scammers may promise to “double” any amount of BUSD you send to a certain address.
These are almost always scams – after you send your funds, they will not return them, let alone double them.
Phishing Attacks
This is when scammers try to trick you into giving them your personal information, such as your private keys or login information.
They may impersonate a trusted organization or individual to do this.
The scam complaint we opened this article with seems to be an example of a Website Scam, which could also be considered a form of a Phishing Attack.
In this case, the fraudulent website (busd3.top) appeared to be a legitimate trading platform. The user connected their Trustwallet (which held their BUSD) to this website, which likely required them to provide their wallet’s private key or to authorize certain permissions that allowed the website to control their wallet.
Once the scammer had these permissions or access to the user’s private key, they were able to deplete the user’s funds. The website may have seemed legitimate at first and may have even accurately reflected the user’s balance and allowed for some trading actions. However, the ultimate goal of the scam was to gain control of the user’s wallet and steal their funds.
Fraudulent Investment Opportunities
Scammers create fake investment opportunities promising high yields with low risk. Often, these scams involve sending BUSD or other cryptos to the scammer’s wallet.
Once the funds are transferred, they are usually impossible to recover.
Impersonation BUSD Scams
These scams involve someone pretending to be from a legitimate organization (like Binance or Paxos) and asking for your private keys, passwords, or other sensitive information.
Always remember that legitimate organizations will never ask for your private keys.
Busd3.top Review
The domain busd3.top was registered on May 23, 2023, less than one month ago, for one year, through Gname.com. The registrant is Binance USD LTD from “zhongqu, SG.” SG stands for Singapore.
SimilarWeb ranks them at 10,349,151 globally and 67,967 in Algeria.
They have 2 referring domains: trustedrevie.ws and scam-detector.com.
While the domain busd3.top does not appear to work at the moment, it is still indexed on Google.
The homepage “busd3.top” is at the top. It’s titled “Binance USD” and may have provided information about BUSD.
Then, there’s the Policy page with the following description:

Then, there’s a page titled Question with the following description:

Fourth is the About page with this description:
Binance Dollar (BUSD) is a 1:1 USD-backed stablecoin issued by Binance (cooperating with Paxos), approved and regulated by the New York State Department of …
The final result, busd3.top/?code=2220865, provided real-time information about the turnover and price of various cryptocurrencies, including BTC, USDC, XRP, DOGE, and MATIC.
This may have been an affiliate code and we do find some online promotion activity of busd3.top. For example, there’s a YouTube channel called “Technical Naseeb Ulhaq” with 31.4K subscribers who is promoting Bitcoin Mining. One of the keywords he is using is “busd3.top” in addition to “busd earning app” and “busd Mining.”
On a video titled “Bitcoin Mining || $20 USDT mine daily || mining app without investment,” the description is:
You can Earn money by Holding your crypto in trust wallet without any risk and you will get BUSD in reward.
There was also a post on a Telegram group called “Story Diary,” which has already been removed. The post said:

This confirms our suspicions that this URL from the Google Index was an affiliate link.
